CBD Services

Cleaner streets are safer streets. An urban landscape made ugly and unsafe by waste, needles and graffiti is not an ideal place for a community to thrive. The NOM-TLCBD seeks above all to create a safer, more vibrant and more beautiful Tenderloin by keeping its 29 blocks clean, while developing programs that promote the identity of the neighborhood and the employment of its lowest income individuals.

Through a partnership with San Francisco Clean City, a non-profit organization dedicated to cleaning, greening and beautifying the city of San Francisco, the NOM-TLCBD has developed a comprehensive set of cleaning and urban maintenance services that continue to show amazing results in the neighborhood. These services include daily sweeping, steam cleaning of ‘hotspots’, intensive sidewalk scrubbing, graffiti and hazardous waste removal, and watering of newly planted trees.

While making our streets more beautiful, these Clean City programs also provide transitional employment to 150 men and women suffering from financial distress, poverty or homelessness in the neighborhood. This employment is a bridge for individuals to rejoin the workforce, and all programs participants receive employment readiness support and job training. Over 65% of those placed retain employment for over a year.

The CBD is a key neighborhood provider of safety services to vulnerable individuals and youth in programs like Safe Havens and Safe Passage. In addition to cleaning and safety programs, the CBD also provides a whole range of other programs designed to further the beautification of the Tenderloin and to promote identity through tree planting, murals, concerts, educational fairs and art events.
