Safety Events

An informed population is the basis for a safe, vibrant and healthy community. The CBD seeks to provide recreation and education to residents through community events that specifically focus on the health and safety challenges of the Tenderloin area while promoting fun and entertainment.

National Night OutThe annual Tenderloin Community Health, Safety and Resource Fair, with over 600 attendees, brings health and safety resources to the community including flu shots, dental screenings, burn prevention education, neighborhood watch information, senior services, Department of Public Health Services, and more. Attendees leave with both free resources they may not have found elsewhere, and greater knowledge about how to prevent threats to their health and security in the future.

Each August, the CBD helps to organize the National Night Out event which brings together community members and the local police departments that serve to keep the community secure. Children, youth and other residents of the Tenderloin are given the opportunity to have positive interactions with local police while having a fun night out in a lively community space.

Santa Sightings

Every December, the CBD brings the big guy himself to the Tenderloin to take orders for presents, give rides on his reindeer, and pose in photos with the children and families. Other activities include pony rides, Christmas carols, carnival games, a petting zoo, piñatas, live music and dancing, and raffle prizes. This Santa Sightings outdoor festival is free to attend, so get your holiday cheer early and come join the festivities!

Concerts

Music has long been in the soul of the Tenderloin, with former venues like the Black Hawk Night Club hosting jazz greats like Miles Davis and Theolonius Monk, while Tenderloin nightlife has always been among the most swinging in the city. The CBD sponsors concerts that help to keep alive this spirit of music and make it accessible to everyone. The Concerts at the Cadillac series takes place at the historic Cadillac Hotel, featuring bands from right here in the neighborhood and genres from all over the globe: jazz, classical, reggae, afrobeat – the list goes on. In addition, our regular concerts include Concerts in the Park at Boedekker Park and People in Plazas, a series of summer outdoor concerts.
