Public Improvements
Beyond basic cleanliness, beautification also means new attractive features and fixtures that add to the appeal of the neighborhood – things like trees, benches, parks, landscape design and bus shelters. With the help of volunteers and partner organizations like Friends of the Urban Forest, the CBD has been on the forefront of tree planting, with over 100 trees planted since its formation, and regular events are held for volunteers to plant trees donated by local partner organizations.
Installation of public seating benches has also become a huge priority with the passing of the Sit-Lie Ordinance, which prevents people from sitting or lying on sidewalks. The eight benches already installed allow visitors to sit and relax in a public space comfortably, and they are closely monitored for vandalism and appropriate use.
