Safe Passage

The future of the Tenderloin community depends on its youth. It is of the utmost importance that children in the neighborhood are able to navigate their own streets without fear or threat of violence. With that goal in mind, the CBD has partnered with several other neighborhood organizations, including the Shih Yu-Lang Central YMCA and the Boys and Girls Club, to create the Safe Passage Project, a series of safe routes for youth throughout the neighborhood that will ensure a secure walk home from school and to and from extracurricular afternoon activities.

These routes will be closely monitored by volunteers, neighborhood groups and SFPD to keep them free from crime and negative activity, and will be visually marked by a bright key and a brick road pattern that immediately alerts youth to the safety of the street they are traveling.
